Hello and welcome to English Enrichment!
This course is meant to help your English speaking, reading, and writing skills. The course can be whatever you need it to be!
Be respectful! This means be respectful to your teacher, your peers, and any visitor who comes into the classroom. Do not speak over anybody else who is talking. Do not use hateful language. This also means be respectful of the space of the classroom. Do not leave garbage behind in the classroom. If it is your trash, you are responsible to throw it away/recycle.
WEAR YOUR MASK!!! (Yes, I know it’s part of the uniform, but I will repeat myself. If my mask is on, your mask has to be on too!)
Any assignment (homework or otherwise) is expected to be turned in on time!! If you fail to do so, the grade is automatically a 0. If you are absent or there are other outstanding circumstances, we may of course discuss it privately.
If you are absent you are responsible for checking Google Classroom for any work you may have missed.
Always be prepared! This means having your notebooks, something to write with, the text we are working on, your iPad (charged), any work due that day.
Most importantly, do not be afraid to ask for help!! The works we are reading are challenging, and we will work through them together. I would never give you an impossible assignment! Do not be afraid to express anything that you find difficult or confusing. Come to class with questions! Chances are if you’re having trouble, you’re not the only one in that boat! If you do not feel comfortable bringing it up in class, please seek me before/after class, during a free period, or via email.
Students will be graded on a total points system, meaning that each assignment is weighted based on its significance.
Every student will begin the quarter with a class participation grade of 100 points. Classroom misconduct will result in a deduction of participation points in increments of 5 points.
Quizzes and classwork will count for 20-50 points.
Your final grade will be the amount of points you earned divided by the total amount of points in a quarter.
iPad use in class: Since we do have such a small class, and many of you use your iPads as a resource for help translating, you will be allowed to use them in class. However, you still need a notebook, as there may be some assignments that need to be turned in on paper. The use of iPads in class is a privilege, and failure to use the iPad in class exclusively for English Enrichment notes and classwork may result in you losing this privilege. For the days you are in class, your Bluetooth must be enabled for the purpose of using Apple Classroom. Photos, as well as video and audio recordings of class are strictly prohibited.
Academic dishonesty/plagiarism: I take academic honesty very seriously. All instances of academic dishonesty, including cheating and plagiarising are not tolerated and will be met with severe penalties. If you are caught you will meet the following consequences:
Absences: Attendance is a priority. All students are responsible for all assigned work, even if they are absent. You are responsible for checking Google Classroom for missed assignments.
Electronic Devices: Cell phones are not permitted in class. During class they should be in your backpacks and silenced. Cell phone use will result in a deduction of class participation points.
Class participation: You start every quarter with a class participation grade of 100 points. You are expected to maintain that 100, through regular participation in class. This does not just mean you speak and answer questions in class, but also come to class prepared. This means you come into class every day with your notebooks open, the text we are working on out, you’re not always asking me to borrow a pen. I understand that some of you like to speak more in class, while others may just like to sit back and listen. If you find that you speak more, be aware of how much conversational space you use in class. If you prefer to sit back and listen, make an earnest effort to challenge yourself and speak during class.
Extra help: As stated before, do not be afraid to ask for help! I am here to support your success! Extra help is always available. If you need extra help, talk to me before/after class or send me an email and we can arrange a time to meet.
