Teacher: Mr. Groner
School: St. Francis Preparatory HS
Class: Introduction to Economics
(Social Studies phone ext. 236) ([email protected])
Class Description for Grade 12:
During this class students will be studying Economics.
Contemporary Economics (This will be available on the school website)
Daily Expectations: Both at home and at school
Students are expected to be prepared and on time each day. They must have a pen or pencil as well as a 1 inch binder with loose leaf every day. It is also expected that students bring in homework and other assignments on time when necessary. Any student who arrives late or unprepared to class will be penalized via class participation grade for that day. ALL STUDENTS MUST HAVE CHARGED IPADS and must login to google meets via google classroom.
Homework will not be given every night. However throughout each unit there will be at least a few homework assignments. Late work will not be accepted without an email explaining the situation prior to the due date. Any late assignment without a preceding email will result in a 0. If you have an emergency situation or some kind of technical difficulties please email me first and we can work on an extension. No email. No credit.
Projects or Papers:
Major projects or papers will be assigned occasionally throughout the year. THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE PROJECT OT PAPER ASSIGNED PER QUARTER. Most likely these will be given in the place of a chapter test and not in addition to it. Therefore these will be graded as if they were tests and weighted the same for end of quarter grades.
Tests will be given at the conclusion of some units unless there was a special paper or project given.
Class attendance at St. Francis Prep is a major priority. All students are required to complete all required work even if they are absent. If a student is absent from class 6 or more times for any given quarter, this will be considered excessive absence. This will result in a mandatory 5 point deduction from the quarterly grade. Please be advised classes missed due to lateness or early dismissal will be included in this group. Retreats, school trips, and official appointments will not count as absences.
“Absences do not excuse classwork, assignments or exams. In case of absence, it is your responsibility to make up all classwork/exams/quizzes and submit all assignments that are due in the appropriate timeframe discussed by the teacher. Until assignments/exams are completed, a zero will be placed into PowerSchool. There are no exceptions.”
**grades in this class are not given they are earned.
Each assignment will be assigned a total number of points.
Large assignments such as tests will be scored out of 100 while small homework or in class assignments may be scored out of 25 or 50 depending on the depth of the assignment.
Each quarter will contain about 650-850 available points. A students GPA can be calculated by simply dividing point earned into points available. Example 600/800 would equal a 75 and 720/800 would equal a 90.
Each quarter your binder will be submitted via photos on google classroom as a 100 pt. test grade. This is to ensure students both in class and at home are physically writing notes and not just copy and paste.
While at home:
Students are to be logged into the google meet via classroom at all times.
Fully engaged in the lesson at all times.
Must have Ids, polos, and cameras on.
Must have microphones off unless called upon and abide by all classroom rules.
The teacher has the right to revise the syllabus at any time. If a revision takes place, the teacher will notify all students in writing.
Students in all Social Studies classes are expected to use good digital citizenship while in class as well as while learning remotely. Students may only use the technological mediums/apps that are approved by the teacher. Students must have cameras turned on at all times when learning remotely. Students may not post any material that does not uphold the Franciscan mission and values. Students may not bully or use profanities in chats and must follow the teacher’s directives regarding posting in chats. No one may record or photograph any part of any class without the expressed consent of the teacher, nor post or share any content or resources on any social media platform. Any infractions of these rules and all rules set by St. Francis Prep will result in disciplinary action as well as academic penalty.
*No students may use the restroom in the first 5 minutes of class or last five minutes unless it is a dire emergency. This time is used for specific important tasks where attention and attendance is necessary.
Cell Phones, and all other unapproved devices are not to be used or taken out during class. Each student will receive one warning to put away the device if they fail to do so it will result in a loss of points on an upcoming assignment or test. If the problem persists it will be reported to the Dean’s office.
Any use of foul or derogatory language or “bullying” directed toward the teacher or another student will not be tolerated. Failure to comply with this rule will follow the “General Sequence of Consequences” listed below.
No food in the classroom.
***All other school rules such as dress code will be enforced in the classroom at all times. All school appointed punishments will apply if these rules are broken.
