Summer 2021 Reading Program

SFP English Department             2021 Summer Reading Program

The English Department is pleased to announce that the following texts will be required for students entering the Senior AP course, the World Literature Honors course, the Junior AP course, the Junior Honors course, and the Sophomore Honors course as preparation for the beginning of the academic year in September, 2021.  Students are responsible to read the required text and prepare for discussion; however, the English department asks parents to monitor reading progress during the summer.  During the first week of classes, students will be given an examination on the required books. 

Seniors: Advanced Placement English in Literature and Composition

Slaughterhouse-Five -  Kurt Vonnegut 

How to Read Literature Like a Professor (Revised Edition) Thomas Foster-  Just read the Introduction plus the first 20 chapters of 'Professor'

Seniors: World Literature Honors

Rings (Ring Series, Book 1) by Koji Suzuki. Translated by Robert B. Rohmer and Glynne Walley.

The books listed below are suggestions for your Summer reading.  No book is required; there will not be tests, quizzes, or projects on these books in September.  The English department has selected these books because we think you will enjoy them and they will help you be well prepared for the new school year.  More important than reading any particular book is that you keep reading.
