TheNational Art Honor Society(NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in attaining the highest standards in art scholarship, character, and service, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.

2018-2019  ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Cumulative ART average of 90% or above no semester/final art grade lower than a 90%. No art failures are permitted. 


  1. At least 15 hours of art department service per year in NAHS. 


  1. Applicant must take at least THREE art classes total Junior and Senior year. 

A. Senior Applying 

                                    -     One art class Junior year, two art classes senior year.

  • Two art classes Junior year, one art class senior year.
  • Three art classes senior year.

           B. Junior Applying     – Two art classes Junior year.

  1. Applicant must work at Open House (October 13th, 2018 – 12PM-4:30PM) with the Art Department. Applicant must work art show set up day on May 17th,2019.


  1. Applicant must be in good standing with Saint Francis Prep. and the Art Department. No honor code violations permitted in year of induction. If a student obtains an honor code violation, they are immediately suspended from the NAHS. 

                  

  1. Student must attend ALL NAHS meetings – NO ABSENCES PERMITTED. Meeting dates are included in this booklet. In the case of an emergency or illness, missed meeting hours must be made up and are an addition to service hours. Three hours per missed meeting.


  1. Applicant must submit application and all recommendations in on time. They must have $50.00 fee paid with application. Fee includes a Graduation cord, pins, certificates, visits from guest artists, art workshops,  and all NAHS membership fees, pizza and refreshments at all monthly meetings.($5.00 per month)


NAHS

Arts Performing Students

Please Note

Performing Arts Applicant must take at least THREE art classes total Junior and Senior year. NAHS is a Visual Arts Society. Acting, Dance and Theater Design will count as part of the three required art courses. Applicants must have a visual arts course to qualify. Theater Design is considered a visual arts course.

A. Senior Applying 

                                    -     One art class Junior year, two art classes senior year.

  • Two art classes Junior year, one art class senior year.
  • Three art classes senior year.

           B. Junior Applying     – Two art classes Junior year.

SERVICE - 15 Hours of service is required for NAHS.

Half hours worked (7.5 hours) must be worked specifically with the visual arts department, the other 7.5 hours may be worked off with Mrs. Mejia and the Alvernian’s – outside of class time and class work.

MISSED MEETINGS – Any makeup hours for missed meetings must be made up directly with Mrs. Buccino in the art department office.

STUDENT FILM - Performing Arts students MAY participate with the Student Film. Participation in the student film is eligible for service hours. See Mr. Biondolillo for details.


Application Instructions:

The candidate must complete all of the following by,

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH, to be considered for membership. ABSOLUTLY NO EXCEPTIONS!

  1.  APPLICATION - Complete NAHS application, please print neatly. 
  2.  RECOMMENDATIONS - Ask two ART teachers to fill out recommendation forms. Recommendation forms must be submitted with application by THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH. Late recommendations will not be accepted. 
  3.  DUES - Submit NAHS dues - $50.00, cash or check, in a labeled envelope with application. (If you are not accepted, all fees will be promptly returned). Fees include NAHS national dues, graduation cords, pins and certificates, visits from guest artists, art workshops, pizza and refreshments at all NAHS meetings.  Please make checks out to Saint Francis Prep or cash. Please be sure to include student name and ID # on the check. 

***Please submit all forms and dues together with a paper clip.


All applications can be submitted by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27TH in the Art Office – Drop Box – NAHS Applications.
