Update from Mary Pappas, RN, BSN: July 15, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you make any travel plans this summer, in addition to the advisory I sent you on 7/14/20 regarding the "hot states" in the United States, you need to be aware of any travel outside the United States.

I offer the following Advisory from the CDC:

Key Points Regarding International Travel

  • CDC recommends that travelers avoid all nonessential international travel.
  • All international travelers should stay home for 14 days after returning from travel, monitor their health, and practice social distancing.
  • Passengers who return from a cruise ship or river cruise voyage are advised to stay home for 14 days, monitor their health, and practice social distancing.
  • St. Francis Prep Policy is as follows: If you traveled internationally in the last 14 days:
    • Stay home, monitor your health, and practice social distancing for 14 days after you return from travel. Social distancing means staying out of crowded places, avoiding group gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others when possible.

Please be assured that St. Francis Prep takes these advisories very seriously and will enforce the protocols set forth by the CDC and DOH, including any increased precautions regarding your return to SFP after such travel, if we deem it necessary.

We each have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe while also being mindful of our commitment to keep the whole SFP community safe (faculty, staff, parents, students, visitors).

If you have any concerns or questions, please e-mail me mpappas@sfponline.org.

Update from Mary Pappas, RN, BSN: March 16,2020

St. Francis Prep Preparedness Plan for Illness or Fever (Based on recommendations from the CDC):

  • Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school, and errands when you are sick. You will help prevent the spread of your illness.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way. Cover coughs and sneezes. Use a tissue to cover coughs and sneezes; then dispose of the tissue. When a tissue is not available, cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Stay 6 feet away In public when possible.
  • Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces at home, work, or school, especially when someone is ill.
  • Wash hands for 20 seconds. Washing hands often under clean, running water can help prevent the spread of germs. If you cannot wash your hands, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer, preferably 60% -100% alcohol.
  • If you have traveled in the last 14 days and are not feeling well, contact your healthcare provider and discuss your travel, exposure and symptoms. We at SFP are monitoring the updates from the CDC and local officials.

We encourage those who may have family members or friends they are in contact with who are ill with concerning symptoms to monitor themselves and their children and seek medical assistance.

Please email the school nurse if there is a concern regarding an SFP student or household members and a confirmed positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test. Once we are informed of any specific concerns within a family, including faculty, staff, and students, we will address and monitor each of these individual cases and ask for medical follow up.

Please note:  We have no confirmed cases. Please do your part.  Listen to the news, minimize social gatherings, limit contact with others, wash your hands, and clean and disinfect. Make good decisions for yourself and family.

My thoughts are with all. God Bless.

Please continue to check for further updates on the SFP homepage medical link. For more information pertaining to the COVID-19 virus please check the following website: NYS HEALTH
