Campus Ministry: Midnight Run

By Angel Michelli '14

The Midnight Run is a special program that brings together volunteers from churches, civic groups and schools like St. Francis Prep to distribute personal care items, such as food or blankets, to the homeless population of New York City. The goal is not to solve the problem of homelessness, but to create an environment of trust and affection, which is done through a human exchange rather than just an exchange of the items that the volunteers distribute. Put simply, the Midnight Run does not just give the homeless food and blankets; they talk with them and try to understand what they are going through. It makes them feel heard and happy to know that someone cares. About 20-25 people attend, which means 15-20 students and up to 5 chaperones. The next Midnight Run is on March 27th, 2013. The Campus Ministry Office on West Top, outside the library organizes this program and can provide further details.
