Christmas Concert II

By Maureen Mullarkey '11

On Saturday, December 11, 2010, SFP held its second Christmas concert, Christmas Concert II. The Junior Band, conducted by Mr. Karaca, started the night off with “Many Christmas Greetings” arr. G.J. Sebesky, followed by “Cassini’s Rings” by M. Oare. Concert Band, conducted by Dr. Corbino, performed next, playing a moving “Ukrainian Bell Carol” arr. R. Saucedo, followed by “Noel Suite” by L.C. Daquin (arr. P. Gordon).

Next to perform was the breath-taking Chamber Choir. Not only were all their pieces performed a capella, but they were all self conducted as well. If not the first time, it has been a long time since Chamber Choir has done this. Their pieces included the following: “Ave Verum Corpus” by W.A. Mozart, “Prayer” by R. Clausen, and “Home for the Holidays” arr. by M. Huff. Next to perform was the popular Jazz Band, conducted by Dr. Corbino and Mr. Karaca. Pieces included the finger-snapping “Jive at Five,” “The Closer,” and “Cool” from the Broadway Musical West Side Story – a very “cool” performance indeed.

The impressive Prep Chorus was next to perform, with “Tomorrow Shall be My Dancing Day” by J. Gardner, the moving “O Magnum Mysterium” by M.Lauridsen, and “Rejoice!” by D.E. Wagner. The Prep Chorus was conducted by Ms. G, a former music teacher at SFP, who was Ms. Pignataro’s teacher when she attended Prep! Last but not least, the Prep Chorus and Concert Band performed the spectacular and wondrous “Hallelujah Chorus.” To end the night, the Music Department announced the winners of its 50/50 and prize basket contests, all which were held to benefit this summer’s Italy Tour; and who better to win a basket than our very own, Ms. Lynch! An amazing job to all performers!
